Rental costs vary among the districts of Vienna. Rents are highest in the central Innere Stradt (1st District) and decrease as you move farther away. Single family homes are farther from the city center in districts 13, 18 and 19. Districts 19 and 22 are home to a large expat community and international schools.

The rental market for apartments is highly regulated and intricate but favors tenants in Austria. The Landlord and Tenant Act (Mietrechtsgesetz) covers conditions such as minimum notice periods and sets rents for rental apartments according to the facilities and furnishings provided. Rents for single family homes are not generally covered by the Act.
