Although Moscow is rated as one of the most expensive cities in the world, if you are careful with your money and take the time to learn the best places to go, it is possible to live in the city reasonably cheaply.
Transport
A single ticket on the metro costs just $0.50 and taxi prices for journeys within the city range from $2 - $7.
Shopping and Sightseeing
Museums and entrance to famous places usually costs between $2 and $4. All kinds of electronic goods and a vast range of other commodities are available at comparable prices to Western Europe and the United States, although clothes are generally a little more expensive, particularly for brand names.
Groceries
Russian brand food is generally inexpensive, and imported brands are available, although at a significantly higher price.
Eating Out
Fast food restaurants such as McDonalds, Pizza Hut and KFC are common throughout Moscow, and these, along with the many street vendors selling fast food, are of a comparable price to Western Europe and the states, and probably represent the best value for money. There are also a huge range of restaurants, cafes and delicatessens to choose from serving every manner of food available, with prices varying according to the target market.
Nightlife
Like much of Moscow, the nightlife can be either very cheap or extremely expensive, depending on where you choose to go. Many of the clubs have free entry but the vost of beer can be anything up to $10, and spirit and mixer up to $15. Tickets for the theatre, opera and ballet generally cost between $20 and $100, depending on the seat, show and location.
